A comparative study of procedures for binding of aflatoxin M1 to Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG BJM

ABSTRACT Several strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), frequently used in food fermentation and preservation, have been reported to bind different types of toxins in liquid media. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of different concentrations of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (ATCC 53103) to bind aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) in liquid media. AFM1 binding was tested following repetitive washes or filtration procedures in combination with additional treatments such as heating, pipetting, and centrifugation. The mixture of L. rhamnosus GG and AFM1 was incubated for 18 h at 37 °C and the binding efficiency was determined by quantifying the unbound AFM1 using HPLC. A 2006–2009 közötti időszakban a tej fogyasztói ára Magyarországon volt a legmagasabb. A fogyasztói árak közötti árkülönbségek mögött számos tényező húzódik meg: az áfatartalom, a kereskedelmi láncok árpolitikája, a feldolgozói ár és végül a termelőknek fizetett felvásárlási ár. Az áfa mértéke alapvetően makrogazdasági adottság, egy adott ország gazdaságpolitikájának függvénye. Az EU régi tagállamaiban a kiskereskedelmi láncokkal kialakult kapcsolatrendszer és a piaci kultúra évtizedes fejlődés eredménye. A magyarországi szarvasmarha- és juhágazat középtávú kilátásai AgEcon

Az állattenyésztési ágazatok kilátásai nem biztatóak a tartósan magas takarmányárak, a vertikálisan kevésbé szervezett, a termékpálya szakaszai közötti laza kapcsolat miatt, ami a legfontosabb felvevőpiacok szervezetlenségére is visszavezethető. A magyarországi állattartók érdemben nem képesek befolyásolni sem a világpiacon, sem az Európai Unió piacán zajló folyamatokat, így kénytelenek a réspiacokat kitöltve alkalmazkodni. Különböző modellváltozataink szerint a szarvasmarha-állomány 680-731 ezer egyed, a tejelőtehén-állomány 266-269 ezer egyed között alakulhat 2013-ban. This article evaluates the evolution of productivity, specialization and concentration of milk production in microregions of Rio Grande do Sul in the period 1990 to 2009. Productivity is measured by the ratio between milk production and the number of cows milked, the specialization is calculated from the location quotient (QL) and concentration is determined by the location Gini (GL), according to the geographical division of microregions of IBGE. The survey results showed that increases productivity, specialization and concentration in milk production, with emphasis on microregions of Três Passos, with QL equal to 2,33 in 2008, and Passo Fundo, with productivity of 4.197 liters/cow in 2009. A Reserve-Balancing Pool for Services by Dairy Cooperatives AgEcon

The rationale for compensating dairy cooperatives for the costs incurred in balancing milk supply for the fluid market is examined. A reserve-balancing pool is proposed to facilitate deducting supply-balancing service credit from a marketwide producer pool and making payment to cooperatives for providing the services. The volume of necessary reserves maintained for the fluid market determines the size of the reserve-balancing pool. A dairy cooperative qualifies for pool payment based on the volume of milk delivered for fluid uses and on the volume of necessary reserves actually balanced. The purpose of the study is to assess the economics of dairy farming in Bangladesh and the prospects for improving the dairy income for small-scale producers, which currently form the backbone of the dairy industry. The document begins with a general overview of milk production in the country, followed by a detailed study of dairy farming in the in the northern district of Sirajganj. The study applies a method of farm-level economic analysis developed by the International Farm Comparison Network (IFCN) which is based on the concept of ‘'typical farms’'. Aflatoxin M1 in milk by immunoaffinity column cleanup with TLC/HPLC determination BJM

During 2002 and 2003, a total of 107 samples of raw, pasteurized and ultrahigh treated temperature (UHT) milk commercialized in the cities of São Paulo and Marília (SP) were analyzed for the presence of aflatoxin M1 (AFM1). AFM1 was detected in 79 (73.8%) of milk samples, ranging from <0.02 to 0.26 mug/L.The samples were analyzed using an immunoaffinity column for cleanup and a thin layer chromatography for determining AFM1. The parameters, such as recovery, repeatibility, detection and quantification limit were evaluated to optimize this method (in-house). Based on spiked samples, the recovery values ranged from 85.83 to 73.86% at levels of 0.010-0.50 mug/L, respectively, and the relative standard deviation for repeatibility ranged from 7.73 to 2.08%....

An Exploration of the Relationship Between Income and Eating Behavior AgEcon

This paper explores the relationship between income and eating behavior. To do this we examine choice in two food categories: milk and soft drinks. These categories have varieties differing in health qualities but either no differences in cost or lower cost for the healthier types. By examining food choices when there are no measurable cost differences but clear health differences, we are able to isolate the association between income and healthy eating behavior. We find a negative association between income and dietary intake of higher-calorie types of milk and soft drinks. Our estimates are consistent across the five sets of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the Continuing Survey of Food Intakes by Individuals data that we study....

El marco analítico es un modelo de producción multi-output en el que la calidad de la leche se considera como un output del proceso productivo. The paper analyzes the reasons for the prices of milk and milk products in the Czech Republic for the period 2008 – 2009. In January 2008, the purchase price of raw milk was 10.08 CZK/l, and in the subsequent period it began to decline. At the end of 2008, the price was more than 3 crowns lower, and still the decrease continued. The research determined that the essential reason for the price fluctuations is the impact of the economic crisis. The presented study aimed to verify the effect of different pH values, enzyme solutions and heat treatments on the antimicrobial activity of the bacteriocinogenic strain Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis Lc08 and to test their antimicrobial activity against Listeria monocytogenes in reconstituted skim milk at refrigeration temperatures. This strain was previously described as a nisin Z producer and capable of inhibiting L. monocytogenes growth in in vitro tests. The antimicrobial activity of the bacteriocin cell-free supernatant of Lc08 was sensitive to enzyme treatments (except papain). Antimicrobial susceptibility and virulence-associated genes in Campylobacter isolates from milk and wastewater in Hatay, Turkey Ciência Rural

ABSTRACT: Campylobacter is one of the most common causes of bacterial foodborne diseases throughout the world. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence, antimicrobial resistance and virulence of Campylobacter isolates of raw cow’s milk and cattle slaughterhouse wastewater samples in Hatay, Turkey. A total of 114 raw milk and 78 wastewater samples were analyzed for the identification of C. jejuni, C. coli, and C. lari by multiplex PCR. The overall prevalence of Campylobacter was found to be 7.2%, of these isolates, 85.7% were identified as C. jejuni and 14.2% as C. coli, but C. lari was not detected in the study.
